SDSU Georgia at 2017 Google Hash Code Tbilisi

On February 23, 2017 a Google Hash Code event took place in Tbilisi with the cooperation of SDSU Georgia, Georgian Technical University and mobile service provider Beeline. SDSU Georgia student Giga Vashakidze was the hub organizer.

Google Hash Code is a team-based programming competition organized by Google for students and industry professionals. Google offers a real-life engineering problem to solve in real time. This year, 250 Google Hash Code hubs were created in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Teams from Georgia were able to join at SDSU Georgia’s hub. Hubs are a fun way for participants living in the same area to compete side-by-side during the Online Qualification Round, and are a great way to increase the level of excitement and competition and allow participants to meet new people in the process.

150 people registered at the SDSU Georgia hub, 25 of them female. Those registered are students from local universities as well as industry professionals from STEM fields. Participants were given four hours to work on an engineering problem given by the Google team, and were then required to submit their work to the judge system. During the competition, teams are able to monitor live results of other registered teams at the hub to compare their work and make necessary changes quickly.

Participants also had the opportunity to submit their resumes during competition registration, as employment opportunities with Google are a possibility for the teams who perform well in the competition.
