SDSU President Adela de la Torre’s official visit to Georgia

On September 18–22, 2018 the ninth permanent president of San Diego State University (SDSU) Dr. Adela de la Torre and a delegation of SDSU professors will officially visit Georgia for the first time. In the frame of the visit, President de la Torre will meet with the government of Georgia, the U.S. Embassy, and representatives of business and academic sectors.

On September 19, 2018 President de la Torre, along with other official guests, will attend the San Diego State University Georgia (SDSU Georgia) Convocation ceremony. The President will address freshmen students and congratulate them on the beginning of their college career. On September 20, 2018 President de la Torre will meet with SDSU Georgia partner university rectors and visit newly renovated infrastructure, modern classrooms and state-of-the-art labs constructed within the framework of the SDSU Georgia project. On that day President de la Torre will also attend the SDSU Georgia Advisory Board meeting, where she will discuss the university’s future plans and the importance of cooperation between business and academic sectors.

Dr. de la Torre brings to SDSU nearly 30 years of service in leadership roles within institutions of higher education, including the California State University system, the University of Arizona and the University of California, Davis. In all of her various leadership and teaching positions throughout her career, Dr. de la Torre has endeavored to provide equal access to health and educational opportunities for all students, with a particular focus in improving outreach, recruitment, and retention of highly qualified students from underserved communities.

San Diego State University (SDSU)

The history of SDSU began in the late 19th century. It is one of the biggest and most popular universities in California with 35,000 students and a $130 million budget for research. SDSU, through funding from the U.S. Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation, offers internationally accredited Bachelor of Science programs in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in Georgia. SDSU Georgia graduates will receive an American degree. These programs will support the development of construction, science, and technology fields along with Georgia’s human capital capacity for economic growth.
